Adding a shortcut icon, Web site icon, URL icon, or bookmark icon to your website

It is called favicon. There are many web generators that you can use to make your favicon. I use this one: and all you have to do is:

– browse the image you want to use as the icon (it should be 16X16),
– generate favicon.ico file (a zip file)
– download the zip file and decompress it
– copy out the file favicon.ico into the root folder of your site, not into any folder of any kind
– Add following HTML tags to your web page after the <head> tag but before the </head> tag:

<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=””&gt;

where is the name of your domain. Remove the &gt; at the end and replace with ‘>’

– If you want to do a local test of how it works before you upload your files to the server: use <link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”favicon.ico”>
