SMB issue after Windows 10 Feature Update: The Solution.

Twice a year, Microsoft rolls out feature updates to Windows 10. Currently, the latest feature update is now officially dubbed Windows 10 April 2018 Update, released on April 30, 2018. However, some users (especially enterprise networks) run into some hitches after the update. In this post, we discuss simple ways to solve the issue of inability to access shared folders in your enterprise network, after your Windows 10 update/upgrade.

IMG_20180530_102528.jpgThe culprit here is what is called SMB protocol (Server Message Block). Follow the following steps to resolve it:

  1. Click Search on your task bar, and type Turn Windows Features On or Off
  2. Click to open the Windows Features
  3. Click to check the boxes for SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support as well as SMB Direct
  4. Click Ok, and reboot your computer
